The Firm — Priya Prakash Royal | Royal Law Firm
Washington, D.C.
The Firm

A coordinated, standards-driven legal platform for cross-border families, founders, and enterprises.

Royal Law Firm PLLC was founded in 2009 in Washington, D.C. to advise clients whose matters live at the intersection of jurisdictions, disciplines, and generations. Every engagement is led through The Royal Method™ and delivered by senior counsel admitted in the relevant jurisdiction or credentialed in the relevant discipline.

Positioning

Royal is built for matters where ordinary legal coordination breaks down: estates that move across borders, founders who own innovation that has to be protected before it has a value, multinational families that need decision-rights frameworks that hold across generations, and operating companies whose tax, IP, and governance posture must be designed together rather than discovered in sequence.

The firm's standard is set at the framework level. Every matter begins with a Phase 1 Assessment — a privileged forensic review across tax, structure, intellectual property, controversy, and sequencing — and proceeds only after the issues have been identified in writing. Strategy and implementation follow, coordinated through aligned counsel admitted in the relevant jurisdiction and specialists credentialed in the relevant discipline.

Royal does not take on engagements without a Phase 1 Assessment, and does not promise outcomes before the underlying exposure is understood. That discipline is the firm's product.

Founder

Priya Prakash Royal, Esq.

LL.M., MBA, AEP®, TEP

Priya Prakash Royal founded Royal Law Firm in 2009 to advise founders, multinational families, fiduciaries, and closely held enterprises whose legal, tax, governance, and intellectual-property matters span jurisdictions, generations, and disciplines.

A former IRS Estate & Gift Tax Attorney with NACVA valuation training, Priya worked on estate examinations, valuation matters, and multinational fiduciary returns involving complex planning structures, closely held businesses, intellectual property, and significant wealth-transfer issues. She also contributed to internal IRS training relating to estate, gift, and fiduciary taxation.

In private practice since 2006, her work has included cross-border tax and estate planning, international trust and estate administration, tax controversy, business succession planning, intellectual-property and trade-secret disputes, trademark portfolio matters, fiduciary litigation support, and governance design for families and founders.

Priya is the architect of The Royal Method™, the firm's proprietary framework for identifying and sequencing legal, tax, governance, and ownership decisions before implementation begins. Her practice is built on the principle that material risk rarely exists within a single discipline; it emerges where tax, structure, intellectual property, fiduciary obligations, and succession planning intersect.

She serves as Treasurer and Board Member of STEP Mid-Atlantic and previously served as Co-Chair of the DC Bar Estate, Trusts & Probate Steering Committee. Her commentary has appeared in Forbes, Bloomberg Tax, Wealth Management, the New Jersey Law Journal, and other professional publications. She is the lead author of ALIGNED: A Governance Framework for Modern Families.

Recognition includes selection to Super Lawyers® (2026), Rising Stars® (2021), Bloomberg Law's Leading Law Firms in Technology & Innovation (2026), and the DC Bar Trailblazing Attorney of the Year Award (2022).

Today, Priya leads Royal as its founder, standards authority, and strategic relationship lead. Matters are coordinated through the firm's framework and delivered with aligned counsel, jurisdiction-specific specialists, and USPTO-registered intellectual-property counsel where required.
